How to get to Alston and the North Pennines

By road

From the east: A69 from Newcastle then A686 from Hexham, A689 from Durham.

From the west: A686 from Penrith.

From the north: A689 from Brampton and Carlisle.

From the South: M6 then A686 from Penrith, A1 (M), A66, B6277 from Barnard Castle.

By Bus

There are limited bus services to Alston, some of which are seasonal. Check online for current timetables. Visit the Westmorland and Furness Council website for more information.

The Sea-to-Sea (C2C) Cycle Route passes through the heart of Alston Moor, and is one of the most popular and challenging long-distance cycle routes in the UK.
