Newton Reigny Nature Reserve

Near Penrith, Penrith, Cumbria, CA11 0AS.

Newton Reigny Nature Reserve is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSI) and a .30 ha basin mire.  The Reserve is owned by the Cumbria Wildlife Trust.

The reserve is wet with many ditches so extreme care is needed when visiting.  It is recommended not to visit the site alone.

In the past peat was cut from the land by local families. A large variety of plants grow in the calcium rich water. These include black bog-rush, great fensedge, greater spear-wort, and various species of willow.  A number of rare spiders and beetles have been seen here.

Newton Reigny Nature Reserve is accessed from the village of Newton Reigny, 2.5 miles north-west of Penrith.
