Penrith Beacon
Penrith (Accessed from a path on Beacon Edge near the junction with Fell Lane).
High above the town of Penrith, on top of Beacon Hill, is the Penrith Beacon. The Beacon is a monument built in 1719, on a spot where beacons have been lit in times of war and emergency since the time of Henry VIII.
One of the most recognisable landmarks in Penrith. You can enjoy a lovely walk up to the beacon. The surrounding forest is home to a range of birds and wildlife including red squirrels and roe deer.
There are magnificent views on a clear day across the Eden Valley to the hills of Lakeland.
