Sustainable tourism practices aim to reduce the negative impacts of tourism activities on people,Seedlingsplaces and the planet whilst increasing its benefits, by: Protecting natural environments and resources when managing and developing tourism activities.

Greening Eden businesses

Greening Eden Businesses will support local businesses to reduce their carbon emissions, and save money at the same time.

This is a 39-month project, running from February 2021.

The project will support local businesses while championing our environment.

The Westmorland and Furness Green Enterprise Hub

The Westmorland and Furness Green Enterprise Hub is a resource centre aimed at assisting businesses and social enterprises in planning for a more sustainable future.

The hub offers initial guidance about potential ways to reduce carbon footprints and on the various free and subsidised assistance options that would be most helpful to them.

Led by Cumbria Action for Sustainability (CAfS) as part of an innovative delivery partnership, the Green Enterprise Hub has received financial backing worth £571,359 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Cumbria Tourism Sustainable Tourism Business Toolkit

Cumbria Tourism has an online Sustainable Tourism Business Toolkit.  It’s packed with information and advice on everything from saving energy and reducing food and drink impact to promoting sustainable staff travel, accessing funding, and more.

Lake District Foundation (formerly Nurture Lakeland)

The Lake District Foundation was established as a charity in August 2017. Prior to this, under the name Nurture Lakeland, the organisation had been working for 23 years to raise funds from visitors and the tourism industry. Fix the Fells

The Fix the Fells project is a partnership of six organisations lead by the National Trust. It maintains and repairs the upland paths preventing further erosion. This is vital work without which access to the fells would be limited with severe impacts on the tourism industry.
