The historic Settle-Carlisle Railway runs through the heart of Eden, with stations at Armathwaite, Lazonby, Langwathby, Appleby and Kirkby Stephen. Steam trains can occasionally be seen travelling along this line.  The average journey time from London to Penrith is around 3.5 hours
