West Side Story Photographic Exhibition

The lottery-funded 'West Side Story' travelling Photographic Exhibition tells the story of S&DR operations, and that of its successors, west of the Pennines.

Description

It covers the routes from Darlington / West Auckland to Tebay and Penrith plus the additional sections giving access to the blast furnaces in West Cumberland and Furness.  The exhibition will begin at the first venue, Appleby Tourist Information Centre.

This is a collaborative project between ourselves, the North Eastern Railway Association, the Cumbrian Railways Association and the JW Armstrong Railway Photographic Trust with additional material from a number of private collections. A good number of the photographs have not been displayed previously.

Very many thanks to the small team of volunteers who have been involved in preparing the exhibition and to all the photographers who have kindly allowed their material to be used.
