Description
Brough Farmers' Market is held in the Memorial Hall in Brough (Brough-under-Stainmore to give it it's full name). Some stalls will be inside the hall with others next door.
Brough Farmers' Market is almost unique among Farmers' markets in that it is entirely under cover and thus protected from the weather. Though, there may be extra stalls outside including our vegetable seller who actually prefers to be outside.
Brough Farmers' Market is a certified member of FARMA (the national Farmers' Retail and Markets Association). The market has been in operation now for ten years. It was helped in the first five years with support from Cumbria Community Foundation, North Pennines LEADER+ and DEFRA, the Co-operative Group Community Dividend Fund, Cumbria County Council, Cumbria Rural Enterprise Agency, Eden District Council and Brough Parish Council.
The current opening hours are 9am until 1pm for the larger part of the year. During the winter months the closing time has been 12noon. The organisers do reserve the right to close the market earlier (never before noon) should the number of customers not justify extending the closing time. Some of the other markets do not open at all for the first two months of the year.
