Thursday 2nd January - Dawdles Walk Hartley and Frank’s Bridge circular
Meet at The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am.  One of our favourite walks to the pretty village of Hartley and back via Frank’s Bridge for optional refreshments in Kirkby Stephen.

 

Thursday 11th January - Dawdles Walk Ravenstonedale village
We will take a circular walk around the village of Ravenstonedale suitable for the weather in the day.  We will hope to find refreshments in Ravenstonedale before driving back. This walk may be adaptable for wheelchairs and small powered mobility scooters at their own risk, please contact us.  Meet at The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am for car share 4.8 miles.

 

Thursday 16th January - Dawdles Walk Kirkbank and Slack Gap Lanes
We will explore the ancient lanes of Kirkbank, Slack Gap plus Winton and Hartley roads, all on the outskirts of the John Strutt Nature Reserve.  These all have good surfacing but are inclined to hold water if it has been wet, so please be prepared.  Refreshments back in town.  Meet at The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am.

 

Thursday 23rd January - Dawdles Walk Kirkby Stephen West Station
A simple linear walk down from the Settle-Carlisle station on a tarmac path so suitable whatever the weather.  Some fantastic views along the way as we walk into Kirkby Stephen.  Optional refreshments. This walk may be adaptable for wheelchairs and small powered mobility scooters at their own risk, please contact us.  Meet at the Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30 for car share 1 mile.

 

Thursday 30th January - Dawdles Walk Cemetery and new housing
Bit of a new walk taking in the cemetery and some history before walking through some of the new housing estates on the edge of town which you may not have visited.  Meet at The Cloisters 10:30am.  

 

Thursday 6th February - Dawdles Walk Church and Market Brough
This is the route of our Buggy Walk exploring the back streets of Brough on some less well-known paths with good surfacing. Make sure you do some leaping or even propose on this special day and don’t miss Marilyn Munroe.  This walk may be adaptable for wheelchairs and small powered mobility scooters at their own risk, please contact us. Refreshments will probably be back in Kirkby Stephen.  Meet at the Cloisters, Kirkby stephen 10:30 for car share 4.1 miles.

 

Friday 7th February - Legstretcher Hartley and Winton circular 5.25m
Our first Legstretcher of 2025, allow for a morning out.

Please wear suitable footwear for wet and uneven surfaces and clothes appropriate to the Cumbria weather.  A drink and snack is useful as we don’t always end near a café or pub for refreshments.  Meet at Christian Head Car park 9:30am.

 

13th February - Dawdles Walk Beckfoot snowdrops
Our customary walk along the linear Beckfoot Lane on the edge of the Kirkby Stephen boundary to see the carpets of snowdrops, hopefully at their best. Return to Kirkby Stephen for optional refreshments.  Meet at The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am for car share 1.7 miles.

 

Thursday 20th February - Dawdles Walk Viaduct Walk from Stenkrith car park
Please meet us at the NVT car park if you would prefer. Walk the full length of this permissive old railway path to Hartley.  There are fantastic views from Podgill and Merrygill viaducts.

Returning to Kirkby Stephen via Hartley village and Frank’s Bridge for optional refreshments.  Meet at The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am for car share 1 mile.

 

Thursday 27th February - Dawdles Walk Jubilee Park and Croglam Lane
Enjoy Jubilee Park in winter which offers some shelter and often a full pond.  Returning to town via Intake Bottom, Stainmore Railway footbridge and Croglam Lane named after the earthwork “castle”.  Meet at The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am.

Dawdles walks should take about an hour unless otherwise stated - Where there is a car share, allow for extra time to reach destinations and return. We usually find optional refreshments. Winter walks use gravel or tarmac paths where possible.

Legstretchers, allow for a morning out -1st Friday once a month - Please wear suitable footwear for wet and uneven surfaces and clothes appropriate to the Cumbria weather. A drink and snack is useful as we don’t always end near a café or pub for refreshments.
Everyone welcome, suggested donation £1 per walk towards expenses.

We will substitute the walk leader if not available, back marker added on the day. We carry Public Liability Insurance. * These walks may be adaptable for wheelchairs and small powered mobility scooters at their own risk, please contact us.
