Description

Dawdles walks should take about an hour unless otherwise stated. Legstretchers, allow for a morning out -1st Friday once a month in summer only, back in the Spring. Where there is a car share, allow for extra time to reach destinations and return. We usually find optional refreshments after our walks.  

Everyone welcome, suggested donation £1 per walk towards expenses.  We will substitute the walk leader if not available, back marker added on the day. We carry Public Liability Insurance.   *These walks may be adaptable for wheelchairs and small powered mobility scooters at their own risk, please contact us.

Friday 1st November - Legstretcher Walk Wharton circular 4 miles plus easy

At this time of year, it is delightful to experience our local surroundings in their autumn glory. Optional refreshments in Kirkby Stephen.  Meet 9:30am Christian Head car park.

 

Thursday 7th November - Dawdles Walk Vintage Beech Trees*

Just over a year ago we published a booklet featuring all our local vintage beech trees.  For this walk we hope to see them wearing their autumn colour.  Optional refreshments in Kirkby Stephen.  Meet at The Cloisters 10:30am.

Thursday 12th November - Kirkby Stephen and District Walkers are Welcome AGM

Short AGM formalities followed by snacks and a film.  Please contact us for further information and to let us know you are coming. All welcome.  The Old Forge, North Road, Kirkby Stephen 18:30.


Thursday 14th November - Dawdles Walk Northern Viaduct Trust Round from Stenkrith*

Car share to Stenkrith/NVT car park (let us know if you are going direct) to walk the full length of the NVT disused railway path via Hartley back into town. This walk may be adaptable for wheelchairs and small powered mobility scooters at their own risk, please contact us. Optional refreshments in Kirkby Stephen.  Meet at The Cloisters 10:30am for car share 1 mile.

Thursday 21st November - Dawdles Walk Newbiggin and Ravenstonedale

Car share to the start of the walk at Newbiggin.  This is a new walk devised by Hazel in the area she knows so well.  Meet at The Cloisters 10:30am for car share 5.8 miles.

 

Thursday 28th November - Dawdles Walk Christmas windows and lights*

This has become a regular favourite to walk around the town looking at the Christmas windows and voting on them over coffee.  The lights are being switched on 23rd November. This walk may be adaptable for wheelchairs and small powered mobility scooters at their own risk, please contact us.  Let’s get festive.  Meet at The Cloisters 10:30am.


Thursday 5th December - Dawdles Walk Smardale Nature Reserve*

With this reserve’s gravel and level path, this is a good opportunity to see the last of autumn colour without muddy ground. This walk may be adaptable for wheelchairs and small powered mobility scooters at their own risk, please contact us. Optional refreshments back in Kirkby Stephen.  Meet at The Cloisters 10:30am for car share 2.9 miles.

 

Friday 6th December - Legstretcher Walk Crosby Ravensworth and Maulds Meaburn

A December special for the end of the year for Legstretchers.  Meet at the Christian Head car park 9:30am for car share 17 miles. 

 

Thursday 12th December - Dawdles Walk Kirkbank and Slack Gap Lanes

Walking north out of town we will pick up Kirkbank and Slack Gap Lanes returning via Hartley Fold. This walk may be adaptable for wheelchairs and small powered mobility scooters at their own risk, please contact us.  Optional refreshments in Kirkby Stephen.  Meet at the Cloisters 10:30am.

 

Thursday 19th December - Dawdles Walk Christmas Special

A walk out on the medieval grass lanes of Middlesike and Greensike to Sandford for coffee and mince pies at Owen’s Farm Shop.  Please let us know you are coming to enable catering.  Then back into town and Happy Christmas to all.  Meet at The Cloisters 10:30am.

 

Thursday 26th December - Boxing Day

No walk, see you on Thursday 2nd January 2025.
